A Connected Learning Journey from Foundation to Year 6

St Michael’s Lutheran Primary School provides a contemporary Christian education for students from Foundation to Year 6 in the heart of the Adelaide Hills.

As part of our Early Learning Centre to Year 6 community, children experience a connected learning journey where they are known, valued and supported to grow in confidence, discover their strengths and realise the wonder within.

Our welcoming community combines strong relationships, innovative learning and a commitment to nurturing every child’s potential.

Why St Michael's?

Growing from Foundation to Year 6

Primary school is a time of discovery, growth and increasing independence.

From the excitement of beginning Foundation through to the leadership opportunities of Year 6, students are supported through each stage of their learning journey.

Students learn within our Beginning, Junior, Middle and Senior Learning Communities, providing opportunities for collaboration, leadership and personalised support that reflects the different stages of each child’s development.

Our teachers take the time to understand each child and provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning.

Learning that Inspires Wonder

At St Michael’s, learning is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of discovery.

As an International Baccalaureate World School, students are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, make connections and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

Through inquiry, collaboration and hands-on experiences, students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to become lifelong learners.

More than a Classroom

A St Michael’s education extends beyond traditional classroom learning.

Students have opportunities to explore their interests, develop confidence and discover their strengths through a broad range of experiences including:

  • Specialist programs
  • Sport and physical education
  • Music and creative opportunities
  • Leadership experiences
  • Community events
  • Outdoor and nature-based learning

These experiences encourage students to build relationships, take on new challenges and contribute positively to their community.

Our History

Opened in 1839

St Michael’s Lutheran Primary School has a proud history of providing education to families in the Adelaide Hills since 1839.

Established as part of the Lutheran community in Hahndorf, our school has grown and evolved across generations while remaining committed to the values that have shaped our community — faith, learning, service and care.

Today, St Michael’s combines this rich heritage with contemporary approaches to education, creating a learning environment where children are encouraged to wonder, challenge, explore and discover.

Our history provides a strong foundation for the future, as we continue to support generations of students to realise their potential.

Continuing the Journey from Early Learning to Year 6

Families can begin their St Michael’s journey in our Early Learning Centre and continue through to the end of primary school within one connected community.

Our Early Learning Centre provides children with a strong foundation for learning, relationships and confidence before transitioning into Foundation and beyond.

The strong connections between our ELC and Primary School help children feel familiar, supported and ready for their next stage of learning.
