Learning at St Michael’s

Learning at St Michael's is active, engaging, and grounded in real experiences.

From Early Learning through to Year 6, children are encouraged to explore ideas, ask questions, solve problems, and make meaningful connections with the world around them. Our approach nurtures confident learners who are curious, capable, and ready for the future.

Hands-on, experimental learning

Children learn best by doing.

Across every year level, learning is practical, purposeful, and connected to real life. Through inquiry, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, children develop deep understanding rather than simply memorising information.

Whether investigating scientific concepts, exploring mathematics through authentic experiences, expressing ideas through the arts, or working together on meaningful projects, learning is designed to be engaging, relevant, and memorable.

Nature play & outdoor learning

Our Adelaide Hills setting provides endless opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom.

Natural environments encourage curiosity, creativity, resilience, and independence. Through nature play, outdoor inquiry, environmental learning, and active exploration, children develop confidence while building a genuine connection with the world around them.

Outdoor learning is not an occasional activity—it is an important part of how children learn, grow, and thrive at St Michael's.

A continuous journey: ELC to Year 6

As an ELC to Year 6 school, we offer children a connected and consistent learning journey.

A shared educational philosophy, familiar routines, and strong relationships with educators provide continuity as children grow. Smooth transitions between stages of learning help children build confidence, develop a strong sense of belonging, and continue progressing within a supportive community.

This continuity allows children to focus on learning, knowing they are part of a school that understands and supports them throughout their primary years.

Growing the whole child

Success at St Michael's is measured by more than academic achievement.

We nurture curious learners, creative thinkers, compassionate community members, and resilient young people who are equipped with the skills and confidence to navigate an ever-changing world.

By supporting children's academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development, we help every child discover their strengths and realise their potential.
