Race 1 - Sunday 27th May, 2012
The first Pedal Prix event for the year was held at Victoria Park Sunday 27th of May. Over twenty of our students participated in this 6 hour event. Only one rider was returning from last year’s team so it was a first time experience for the majority of students and parents. The cars finished 12th and 15th however, the aim of the event for us was familiarisation - which was certainly achieved. The team is definitely looking forward to the next 6 hour event to be held in July.

Race II - 29th July, 2012
Last Sunday the St Michael’s Pedal Prix team competed in the 2nd race of the AIPP series at Victoria Race Course. The weather was fine for most of the day which made conditions fantastic for racing. There was a record number of cars this round on the grid (184 in total. In the Primary School Category the Silver car finished in 7th place and the Red car came overall at 14th. Everyone did a great job, especially as the race was interrupted due to a serious accident and then resumed. A special thanks must got to the Team Managers, Rachel Bruce & Scott Jeffries, a huge thank you to Andrew Byrne for preparation of the cars and Peta Byrne & Sue Read for their fantastic catering. Bring on the 24 hour event at Murray Bridge on the 15th of September! Campbell Byrne

Race III - 24 hour event Murray Bridge
Under cloudy skies the teams’ parents and supporters headed to Murray Bridge with high expectations. No one was disappointed. The teams lead by Campbell Byrne (Silver) and Kane Jaensch ( Red ) excelled over the weekend with efforts everyone should be proud of . Excitement built on the Sunday morning with the Silver team chasing 300 laps and the Red team desperate to hold off St Marks from Mt Barker. They did it ! The Silver team finished with 302 laps and finished 8th out of 71, and Red held off St Marks by the narrowest of margins to finish 11th with 283 laps.
Most of our competitors were Year 6 students and this effort is huge when you compare us to other schools who have larger student numbers. Our success was due to the children’s hard work at training and their commitment to the team they were in. As our children and parents found out, it is hard work in the early hours of Sunday morning when the team effort, to make sure we kept our competitive advantage over other teams, showed through.
A special thanks to our team managers, Rachel Bruce (silver team) Scott Jeffries Martin Read (red team), Andrew Byrne our bike technician (who sadly may not be with us next year, but has given many years of service to the teams), Peta Byrne (the same)and Sue Read for their brilliant catering effort over the year and to Chris Jaensch, Steve Johnson Rob Angwin for ensuring the bikes were always in top condition.
I am exceptionally proud and thoroughly enjoyed the way our children represented the school. Their behaviour was brilliant and the whole school community should be proud.
I would like thank our sponsors who without their support it wouldn’t be possible to run the teams. To Access and Construction Equipment (Damien & Donna Rayner), Hogan Insurance Solutions (myself), Bananablue.com.au and Adelaide’s Finest Supermarkets (Rachel Bruce’s Family Kate & Spero Chapley - donated all our food), Adelaide Mushrooms (Brian Schirripa) and Mad Aussie Signs (Andrea & Darryn Gibson), and to many other families who have chipped in to help.
